Literacy

  • Idea Generation
    • Complete your ideas poster
Maths

      • Here are some examples:
        • Green - If there are 5 people at the table and everyone eats 6 sprouts, how many sprouts do we need?
        • Amber - There are 37.5 million Christians in the UK. If Santa gives everyone a three presents, how many will he give out?
        • Red - If the circumference of the chimney is ___ cm then what is the radius of Santa?
        • Black -
    • Your challenge is to come up with more of your own

    • We pretty much have beaten them but just make sure we finish them off

    Home Learning #13

    Debate Club
    • Debates next Friday
    • Essay due in the same day
      • Make sure you are handing in an 'essay', not just some notes scrawled on some paper. If you have any problems with it, tell me now - not on the day you need to hand it in. The worst excuses recently:
        • "I didn't have any paper" - ANSWER: You are welcome to use as much from school as you need
        • "I didn't have the internet" - ANSWER: I have told you in class what you are doing; you can ask me at any point if you have forgotten; you don't need the internet to research these debates - just ask people.
        • "I was too busy" - ANSWER: No you weren't. Even if you are doing something every day after school and at weekends, you can always find at least one hour per week to do some home learning. You are going to high school next year and, although you might not believe me yet, you will be receiving about 4 times more homework than you currently get. Start getting into the habit of making time now!
        • "I forgot" - ANSWER: Man up! Welcome to the list of shame!
    Maths
    • Show three people the Big Maths sheets
      • Brag about your performance
    • Challenge someone in your family to complete some of the questions
      • Laugh at them as they struggle then show them how to work it out.
    Literacy
    • I'm not going to be testing spellings on the last Friday before Christmas. Even I'm not that mean!
    Extras

    Anti Home Learning
    • This is definitely anti home learning; DO NOT try this at home - but it is really cool

      • This version has extra verses but you get the idea
      • Three Kings
        • This one has disabled embedding so you'll have to click the link

    • Ashes
      • Another miserable start to this test but we will remain positive. Read Nathan’s blog about the Ashes.

    • Christmas Number 1

    • Sunday 28th April - 10:00
      • This Sunday, people from all over Norwich are going down to Chapelfield to improve the flower beds. The idea is to take down plants that people can eat and plant them in this public space.
        • I'm told that, although this is an organised event, it hasn't really got full authorisation from the council.

    End of Year Production

    • We need some solid ideas for the feature length film.
    • This years theme: Believe, Persist, Succeed
      • However, after seeing some of the videos from BYOD day, I think we must include at least some kind of horror/scary section because you guys acted and filmed that really well.
    • Make a storyboard for your film idea. The more detail and info the more people will understand it and the more likely it is to get chosen.
      • Remember, what you want isn't necessarily what everyone else wants. An all singing, all dancing extravaganza might be your thing but might not be someone else's. Be inclusive.

    Maths
    • Maths A

      • Blog about a book you have read over the Easter holidays
        • Why did you choose it? What did you like about it? What didn't you like about it? Who would you recommend it to? Why?
    • Grammar
      • I had to edit this after I realised no-one took a grammar handout. I know I didn't really 'sell' them but I thought at least one person might want one. Oh well, too bad.
        • CLICK HERE - This might take a bit of time to load
        • Make a note of your answers and we'll go over them in class when we get back.
